004 : Racing FPV Drone

"Flying an FPV drone isn't just a hobby — it's the closest you can get to becoming a bird without leaving the ground." — ChatGPT

In Grade 10, I discovered my passion for FPV (First-Person View) drone racing — and since then, there’s been no looking back. Over the years, I have participated in several drone racing events at prestigious institutes like BITS Pilani Hyderabad, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay.

One of the highlights was racing at IIT Bombay, where the event was hosted by MultiGP — an internationally recognized drone racing league. I had the incredible honor of meeting Halowalker, the recent champion of a major MultiGP event at the time. Meeting professional pilots and witnessing the spirit of high-speed drone racing up close was an unforgettable experience.

Beyond the competitions, I found something even more special — a vibrant and welcoming community of drone enthusiasts. I built lasting friendships and connections with people who shared the same passion for flying and technology.

Even though I didn’t always take home the trophies, the real reward was the knowledge and experience I gained. Through every race, I developed a deeper understanding of:

  • Drone dynamics and aerodynamics
  • Fine-tuning PID controllers for optimal performance
  • Frame design for speed and stability
  • Battery management and efficiency
  • Signal transmission and minimizing latency
  • Strategic racing techniques and build optimization

What started as a simple hobby evolved into a huge part of who I am — constantly pushing my limits, learning, and flying faster and smarter with each race.
